Willamina SBHC works with Henderson House, Yamhill County's nonprofit domestic and sexual violence agency, to provide Healthy Relationship classes to students at Willamina High School.
Why? Safe Dates, a research-based violence prevention program, reports that between 10% & 38% of high school students have been victims of dating abuse. Henderson House surveyed 804 Yamhill County high school students in 2008 and found: 53% admitted to experiencing emotional abuse in a dating relationship; 29% admitted to experiencing physical abuse in a dating relationship; and 28% admitted to experiencing sexual abuse in a dating relationship.
We hope for better for our students, so are working to give them the tools to recognize unhealthy behaviors, set healthy boundaries, resist sexual and emotional pressure, and develop the skills to have and maintain healthy relationships throughout their lives.
