Student Advisory and General Advisory Committees

Student Advisory Committee

Mission:  "We are a group of organized, committed, honest & passionate leaders whose goal is to provide health information to our peers and the community and support the SBHC, which helps keep students healthy and learning."

Why it's good for youth:

-       Gives them a say in how the SBHC is run – locally and/or at the state level

-        Being involved in decision-making helps prepare for future life and decisions

-        Builds skills that help them become healthy, confident and well-rounded

-        Gives them the opportunity to develop and practice leadership & creative marketing skills

-        Develops a connection with caring professionals who want to help them be successful

-        Looks great on college applications or resumes

How youth help the SBHC:

-        Advise the SBHC staff & helps develop clinic policies that work for teens, such as when the center is open, what types of services to offer, etc.

-        Help determine which areas of health education are needed in Willamina (eg. nutrition, active lifestyles, eating disorders, substance abuse, etc.) and:

o       Create bulletin board displays

o       Develop, judge, and award prizes for contests

o       Become a knowledgeable resource for friends and family

-        Develop or assist with marketing efforts that reach teens

-        Evaluate services and practices

-        Advocate for the SBHC with policymakers and administrators

o       A few can attend general advisory board meetings as youth representatives

If you are a student in the Willamina School District and want to be a part of this committee, please e-mail or call Jacqui Cooke (contact us) with your contact information.
